Today is a great day! I feel rested and my muscles have recovered. Also, I received an email from my role model, Robert Cheeke–known as “the most recognizable vegan bodybuilder in the world”! He has recommended a trainer for me. So, I sent that prospective trainer an email too. I’ll let you know how that goes. But that email from Robert Cheeke was really awesome because he is a very busy guy touring all over America speaking, yet he takes the time to reply to emails from people like me. I have just read his book on Vegan Bodybuilding, and it is very inspirational. I recommend it anyone interested in bodybuilding or even just pursuing a dream.
So now I am really excited about my workout tonight! I feel like a little kid the night before Christmas! It’s ridiculous how excited I can get about working out. There are some serious happy chemicals that are released when I work out. (Drug addicts should learn about this— it’s the best high because there’s no crash or withdrawal later.) Sometimes I will drag myself to the gym feeling down and out and then as I leave the gym I find myself wanting to talk to everyone around me and I am giddy and giggly. I catch myself and I think “girl, you’re acting a little nutty–that’s happier than anyone should be at this time of night” (I usually work out late at night. That’s why I love the Magic Johnson 24 Hour Fitness that is really open 24 hours—you might see me lifting weights at 2am.  There are lots other people there too, it’s good to know I’m not the only “vampire bodybuilder”.) Oh well, I’m not going to apologize for being too happy (or for being a vampire bodybuilder–at least I’m vegan and only drink soy-based blood… : ).
Tonight I will be working abs and calves. I will post my exact workout tomorrow (“tomorrow?” you say —yes, because I don’t know what I’m going to do yet–I decide when I get to the gym and see what equipment is free. Don’t get your spandex in a wad…) See I told you, I’m getting silly just thinking about my upcoming work out. It’s going to be a good one, where I can really push myself beyond former limits because I had a day off (although I did do some crunches on the floor last night—I can’t help it, but don’t worry, it was just a few).
I also made sure that I kept my protein consumption up yesterday since my body was busy making muscle. Here’s what I ate:

  • Breakfast (50 g protein): smoothie with bananas, frozen blueberries, frozen peaches, 1 oz frozen wheat grass, frozen acai berries with added protein (7 g), 2 cups soy milk (14 g protein), 1 scoop Vega Complete Whole Food Optimizer (13 g protein), 1 scoop Vega Sport Performance Protein (20 g protein).
  • Snack: handful of soy nuts (15 g protein)
  • Lunch (35 g protein): Sandwich with lemon-pepper tempeh (15 g protein), lettuce, tomato, Veganaise, and mustard on high protein bread (made from kamut, millet and amaranth) (10 g protein).  With a glass of soy milk (10 g protein).
  • Snack (25 g protein): White bean spread  (15 g protein) with kalamta olives, garlic and lemon juice on high protein toast (10 g protein)
  • Dinner: Large salad with spinach, tomatoes, green olives, shredded carrots, creamy miso dressing and quinoa and lentils (15 g protein).
  • Snack (30 g protein): Smoothie with soy milk (10 g protein) and 1 scoop of Vega Sport Performance Protein (20 g protein)
  • Total = 150 g protein for the day!!!
