One of the easiest way to see progress is with a tape measure and a scale (besides photos or a simple look in the mirror every day, which are the most accurate measurement tools).  Muscle is bigger and harder than fat, so I expect to see my tape measurements rise as my body takes on a more athletic shape.  And since muscle weighs more than fat, I am also hoping to see the scale rise.  It’s funny because certain spots—OK my butt (you made me say it)—looks much smaller now, but since it is higher and harder than it was before, the measurement is actually larger. It’s just shaped different now. (Thank God!) Instead of it being droopy, wide and flat, it is higher and rounder.  Some measurements have not changed, like my waist; but my waistline looks much better now because the flab has been replaced by muscle. (Whoo hoo!)  The same can be said for my hamstrings which have replaced cellulite with hard muscle (Lordy Lordy, So Much Better!!!), but the measurement is the same. Sure, I’ve still got a long ways to go before I meet my goal of looking like one of the female body builders from Oxygen magazine, but I am encouraged that I’m improving—little by little.  I’m off to a good start!!!  Stay tuned!!!

OK, here are my measurements from about 2 weeks after I started this journey, January 25, 2011:

  • Weight: 126 lbs
  • Calves: 12.5 inches
  • Hamstring: 18.5 inches
  • Butt: 36.5 inches
  • Waist: 27 inches
  • Boobs: 35 inches*
  • Deltoids: 11 inches
  • Biceps: 11 inches

*Note: I included the boobs measurement so you can see that I’m not losing ground in that area (as I know a lot of women are afraid of when beginning a weight training program).  In fact, you will see that today’s measurement is larger.  That’s because I have more pectoral muscle now than before and perhaps because I’m at a different point in my cycle.

Today’s measurements (48 days later–sorry, couldn’t wait until 60 days just for a “cleaner” number):

  • Weight: 129 lbs
  • Calves: 13 inches
  • Hamstring: 18.5 inches
  • Butt: 37 inches
  • Waist: 27 inches
  • Boobs: 36 inches
  • Deltoids: 11.75 inches
  • Biceps: 11.5 inches
